ABOUT US

Preserve Upper Black Rock Turnpike (PUBRock) is a grassroots, community organization formed by concerned Fairfield residents of the Upper Black Rock Turnpike area. We are dedicated to protecting the natural resources, quality of life and residential character of our community.

PUBRock was originally formed in response to the proposed expansion of the Black Rock Congregational Church at 3685 Black Rock Turnpike and 3731 Black Rock Turnpike & Lakewood Drive. However, in the course of establishing our association, it was recognized that such an organization is necessary to protect the upper Black Rock Turnpike area on an ongoing basis.

Recently formed, PUBRock already has over 100 members and well over 1,000 supporters throughout Fairfield, and our numbers grow daily. We come from a wide variety of backgrounds, beliefs and faiths. Some supporters are even BRCC attendees who simply feel that the BRCC development is not in keeping with the character of their community, or does not adequately protect the surrounding environment.

While PUBRock opposes the BRCC development project proposed for upper Black Rock Turnpike, we do not oppose the church itself nor its individual members. We acknowledge that BRCC has many ministries which provide assistance to a large number of people. However, this work is simply not relevant when evaluating their proposal. The issue at hand is the appropriateness of this enormous development on the site in question -- not whether or not the organization provides valuable services.

The members of PUBRock also recognize that, to be credible, we must have our 'facts straight'. To that end, we have endeavored to present the data regarding BRCC's proposal as accurately as possible on this web site and in all our informational materials. The information we cite has come directly from BRCC's inland wetland permit application filed at Town Hall, from BRCC published materials, or from BRCC staff directly.

We sincerely hope that, after reviewing the compelling information regarding the BRCC proposal on this web site, you will sign our petition and join us in our efforts to protect our community from destructive over-development.
